External data integration from external Database

Hello @all,

I am very new to this forum and also new to wordpress development.
For a project I need to integrate data from an external resource into wordpress.

Scenario:
– WP implementation that provides views and social media aspects
– external database with thousands of assets

Goal:
– all database assets should be shown in wordpress
– all social media features (comments, likes, …) should work with asstes

Approach:
– Import all assets into wordpress posts table
– sync/connect from wordpress to external db
– something else?

What do you think is the best way to do this?
