I just had a customer in Austria open a live chat with me. He was trying to checkout via Paypal Express. He sent a screenshot to me that appears to be after he signs into Paypal, and Woo displays the billing and shipping details obtained from his Paypal account. However, there’s an error message above that says “Billing Province is a required field”

Why would that error appear if he didn’t actually fill in any billing fields since he’s using Paypal?

He said: in the paying process I get directly to PayPal – never had a problem!?

which I take to mean that he uses Paypal on other sites without a problem. Fortunately, I was able to get the order by just sending him a request for payment manually.

Can you explain why this would happen? Is it a new bug of some sort?

    Hey there!

Without further info on the exact flow they took, the addresses they used on the PayPal side, etc., we wouldn’t really be able to offer much insight.

It doesn’t seem like a bug, I would just keep an eye out and let us know if you see more of this.

Hi. Well the flow, as I understand it, is they select Paypal, which then prompts them to sign into their Paypal account, select a payment method, and so on. Then they’re sent back to the site where it displays their details, and they submit the order. Point being that if his address works on one ecommerce site with Paypal, then it should be working on all sites, unless maybe Woo isn’t interpreting his address correctly. I am not sure how I could troubleshoot it.

This kind of problem is usually caused by either a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.

The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.
