I have received this email from Apple News:

Channel: Science & Technology Research News
    URL: http://www.scienceandtechnologyresearchnews.com
    Dear Raymond Rasmussen,
We’ve noticed a problem with your channel. Until the problem is resolved, new content won’t appear in your channel. Please resolve these issues and go to News Publisher to resubmit your channel for approval.
Channel content contains exposed unicode, HTML, or XML.
    Regards,

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Thanks

    Hi @rayarasmussen

Can you please follow the instructions here so I can attempt to reproduce locally: https://github.com/alleyinteractive/apple-news/wiki/usage#getting-help

    Thanks!

I do appreciate your help with this.

I have followed the link you sent but I’m unclear as to what specifically you’d like me to do. The link drops me in the center of this section “Publishing from the post edit screen”

Please clarify as to what you’d like me to do and i’ll get on it. By the way, I am not a web developer so if you get too technical, you’ll lose me. Sorry.

    Thanks again!

Can you follow the steps in the “Getting Help” section at the bottom of the link I sent?

Apple has suspended by entire channel. Not sure which articles are causing the problem. I have asked for help from Apple. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Think it might help to delete the plugin then reinstall?

Probably not. It’s most likely an issue with your content (it can occur with hidden characters that can sometimes appear when pasting from Word, for example). If you can follow the steps in the Getting Help section at the link I provided above, I can attempt to reproduce locally, and give you more specific feedback.

Here’s the Pastebin link for the article text in WP: https://pastebin.com/zmbGeTbe

apple news link for the same article: https://apple.news/A0YYGaJjkQYGJ70JZ5nNMNw

My apologies, I don’t know how to find the JSON for this article.

And, what I thought would be really easy to do, “enable debugging” I cannot find where the advanced settings are located. My apologies.

The Apple News link you provided doesn’t show any exposed HTML or Unicode when I load it in the simulator, and the raw paste data you sent looks fine to me and passes validation when I use it on my WP install, and it successfully posts to Apple News. Did Apple tell you what, specifically, was wrong with your article, such as a position within the JSON that the plugin generated that was causing the problem?

Same issue is happening for me I got an email just now… https://pastebin.com/08AqPrFZ

    and article:

    https://apple.news/A5kcmFzbpTvW1KuoeU8yDUw

hmmm issue appears to be code after the & sign is showing in apple news which has never been a problem before o.O

To avoid an apple penalty I’ve changed the & to and for now… But can you look into how the plugin is handling the conversion?

The ampersand issue is a bug, specifically with using markdown format. If you change your output format to HTML in the Settings page it should fix this problem for you. We have an open GitHub issue that we are using to track progress on a fix: https://github.com/alleyinteractive/apple-news/issues/402
