• Is this possible and what is the best way to accomplish an upgrade from a subsite to its own site?

I would like to host sites/blogs for others using my specific settings in one installation of WP3 multisite. I can envision a time when one of the users will want to grow to have their own WP installation.

All Subsite users have limited functionality and no cPanel access. If I need to give a user access to stuff for which they need cPanel access, I would need to create their own separate account, separate WP install, etc.

Is it as simple as using the Tools –> Export from WP3 MU, create the new WP installation for tehm and then do Tools –> Import?

    Thanks!

    Yes.

Mostly. You may need to move images and play with the Export to make sure you get all the new locations right, but pretty much, yeah 🙂

No prob 🙂 Just as a heads up, whenever you’re moving a website, make GOOD safe, offline, backups, and just take things thoughtfully and one step at a time.

I can’t tell you how many posts here involve the comment ‘I didn’t know what to do, so I deleted everything.’ or ‘My screen didn’t match the one in the directions, so I clicked ‘OK.”

A lot of the answers to weird errors are found on google or here 🙂 Just be patient and remember computers are out to get you.

I certainly had my share of learning the unpleasant way about backups. However, it is easy to slip on the vigilence after some time without incident.

    Indeed, good reminders; thanks!
