I have a site that is within a multisite, and it is domain mapped using the WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin.

I am trying to export the site, then import it into its own new standard/standalone install (which does not have domain mapping, obviously).

The problem I am facing is when I attempt to import, all my media files say, “Failed to import Media”. My hunch is that this is due to the MU domain mapping. I saw another post online a while back that seemed to indicate this.

Is there a solution to be able to do this?

Check your hosting setup to see if you have image hotlinking disabled/blocked.

    Hi Ron,
I checked and image hotlinking is not blocked. Doesn’t look like that’s the issue.
    Thanks,

I ended up purchasing a 3rd party tool that was able to accomplish this. I tried a whole bunch of different methods and could never get it to work with the WordPress standard import/export. If anyone else faces a similar challenge, I’d definitely recommend the tool I tried: BackupBuddy. It worked great and allowed me to extract a sub-site out of my network that was activated with MU Domain Mapping, and install it as a standalone site.

If you had already moved the domain DNS then the new site would not have been able to contact the original site to request the images.

No, I had not moved the DNS to make sure that wouldn’t be the issue
