    Hi everybody,

I come here because I have some dificulty to export import product from a woocomerce to another fresh install.

On the old site, I can export “name,” “image,” and “short description.” Naturally, I have a name, image, and short description for my product! When I try to import on the new site, the import process starts and finishes successfully. During the import, WooCommerce asked me to map the columns. On the left side, I have “example name,” and on the right side, I need to choose the corresponding field, so I select “name,” and that’s it. However, when I tried with one product, I ended up with two new products: one with the name “name” and the other with the correct name. The first one has no picture and no description. I checked the export file, and I can see the URL of the image and the description.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

I use the last version of wordpress and woo on the 2 sites.

    Best Bruno.

    Hi @trevellfr,

I understand how confusing it must be to run through the export and import process, only to find duplicate products showing up — one with the correct data and another with just “name” and no details. Since you’ve already checked that your export file includes the image URLs and descriptions, it sounds like the extra “name” column is being treated as an actual product during the import mapping stage.

Have you been able to successfully import products in the past, or is this the first time you’re trying it? If you’ve done it before, did the issue only start appearing recently, perhaps after an update to WooCommerce or WordPress? This will help us determine whether it’s a regression or a new setup issue.

Could you also please share two things so we can look more closely at what’s happening?

With those details, we’ll be able to pinpoint why the duplicate is being created and guide you on the right import mapping to use.

Looking forward to your reply so we can help you get the import working smoothly.

    Hi @trevellfr,

Thank you for getting back and for sharing the screenshots.

However, when I tried with one product, I ended up with two new products: one with the name “name” and the other with the correct name. The first one has no picture and no description.

From the screenshots, the success message indicates that two products were imported, not one as you mentioned.

Could you please share a copy of the CSV file you used for the import? You can upload it to Google Sheets and share the link with us.

    Hi there!

Thank you for sharing the CSV content. I can see the product information, but it looks like it was pasted as text instead of uploaded as an actual .csv file. To review it properly and ensure the formatting is preserved, could you please share the file directly as a .csv attachment?

This will help us check the data structure more accurately and provide you with the right guidance.

    Hi @trevellfr,

Thank you for sharing the CSV file. I reviewed it and noticed there’s an empty row above the column headers, which shouldn’t be there. Please open the file in Google Sheets, remove the first empty row, then save and export it again as a CSV.

Also, I’d like to clarify—since you mentioned you successfully imported one product, were you able to remove the extra product with the empty title and details, or do you still intend to re-import the single product in the CSV?

    Hi !

You are right, I remove the first line and all is fine…

    Thank you very much.

    Hi @trevellfr,

I’m really glad to hear removing the empty first line fixed the issue and your import is now working as expected. It’s great you followed through and tested it right away, that will save you a lot of time when moving products between sites. If you run into anything else with the import and export process, feel free to reach out and we’ll be here to help.
