# Export Error

 * When I run the export (under WP Tools), I receive this error:
    “error on line
   2 at column 1: Document is empty” The rest of the page is blank. I ran the export
   a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly. I’m not sure what changed.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is 
   currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress
   asap.

 * Thanks for the suggestions. I will that!
 * In regards to the version of WP, I updated to 3.9 and my blog crashed. I had 
   so many headaches with it, that I rolled back the installation to the more stable
   3.8 version.
