Expand Search Result Content Within Same Page?

  • Hello,

I apologize if this has been touched upon already. While I tried to find existing threads on the topic, this is my first time on a forum like this, so I very well may be n00bing it up.

I have made a standard personal use blog to keep track of quotes, poetry, etc. that I want to keep. I also have some more journal-like posts that are my own thoughts on the above, and as such are much longer. The theme is Twenty Eleven.

I was wondering if there were a way to make it so when you clicked “continue reading” on a search result, the post expands within the same page, instead of redirecting you to a single-post page. It is rather cumbersome to wait to for redirect after redirect when I am browsing through a lot of posts from the same topic.

I have already played around with simply increasing the number of words in a given excerpt, and picking a number better suited to my needs for this setting certainly it makes things better, but doesn’t quite do what I think would be ideal. I have also changed it so that it shows the entirety of each post on search, rather than excerpts, but this doesn’t quite feel right either. As such, I was hoping that it would be possible to use excerpts, but then actually expand post content with the “continue reading” without needing to opening up a new page (unless you click on the post title).

    Thanks so much in advance!
