Execution time abort issue using backup guard

    Sir / Madame, I am looking for a backup plugin for my site, and I installed and ran Backup guard. Within a few seconds of running a full backup, I got an error indicator in the backup… Any suggestions? I like the simplicity of BG, and would like to make this work…

    Dear customers,

    It’s really strange why you still see an execution timeout error if you’ve set sufficient timeout in your configurations. We’ve tested the plugin for many many environments and configurations. But, of course there are number of cases which we event can not imagine could happen. So, please don’t think we treat you as chasing rabbits there when we ask you check it once more or help us figure the problem out. The thing is, sometimes we’re unable to reproduce the issue on our side.

    Could you please open a support ticket here http://backup-guard.com/tickets/ and provide any temporary WordPress user credentials? Our developers will connect to check the problem asap.

    Before I checked the forum here, I also kept going in and increasing the time until I had up to 3000 seconds. It errors out after just a few minutes with the same error message shown in the above posts:

    PHP EXECUTION TIMEOUT ERROR
    Your hosting has an execution time limit of 3000 seconds for PHP scripts, which is not enough for performing full backup/restore of your website. A full website backup/restore is a complex process which may take a couple of minutes depending on many circumstances. The needed execution time varies depending on the backup options and your server performance, that’s why we cannot tell exactly how much execution time is needed. But, almost all hosting providers give users the ability to increase the execution time limit or they increase it themselves, upon user request. Please ask your hosting provider if they are able increase your execution time limit.

    The little red warning triangle says: “Errors found during backup”. Could this be unrelated to the time limit problem? I can only find version 1.1.0 for download so that’s what I have.

    Yep. Same error on vs 1.1.3. Timeout is 3000. Takes right around five minutes and stalls at 66 seconds.

    I’m using a pro theme (from Elegant Themes) on GoDaddy – if that makes a difference to your environment!

    I tried – reinstall plugin, had GoDaddy increase the time limit to 3000 seconds.

    Partial backup works.

    Have there been any other developments with this issue? It is obviously not the “set_time_limit(7200);” wpconfig setting that is going to solve this problem.

    Is there anything else to try related to the time limit? The backup still fails after just a few moments – not the entire time limit set by the variable.

    If there are other PHP settings that are related that you would recommend trying, I am willing to test them for you.

    While we’ve been investigating the problem, we’ve found the following aspect which might be useful for you who stuck on this strange issue. Sometimes, deepening on hosting (e.g GoDaddy), the execution timeout configuration shows incorrect/fake number (e.g. it shows you’ve set 3000 seconds max execution timeout, whereas the scripts is being stopped after 30 seconds). We’ve checked this point in different ways and are pretty sure the problem is not related to Backup Guard plugin, but any script which can take a while. To make sure, just try to have a very simple script which can take a while and you’ll see the script automatically is being stopped by your hosting without reaching the max execution timeout number you’ve set in your configurations. Unfortunately we can’t provide you a definite resolution to bypass the hosting limitations at this moment, but we’re working hard to figure out a new approach to resolve the problem anymore!
