 * With my site, I have a large number of custom post types. Is their anyway to 
   restrict which post types this feature looks at?

    If I understand correctly, you want to select post types 
   in which not to show Related Posts?

 * That is correct. I have added the wp_related_posts(); function to only appear
   on my ‘news’ posts but the content that it returns is from all my posts types
   which I don’t want to appear in this list.
