Exclude posts by date value in custom field

I am looking for a way to exclude posts from the loop, based on the date that is entered as a value for the custom field ‘eventdate’; If ‘eventdate’ is earlier then today, the post should be excluded.

I guess this can be done quite easily, but I’m affraid I miss the PHP skills to code it.
