Exclude categories from Page Titles?

Anyone know how to exclude a category in a page title using the Yoast SEO plugin?
Some of my posts are linked in two categories. E.g. some posts are in their regular category but also in a “featured items” type category. For the Yoast breadcrumb, it’s fine, because only the first/permanent category is displayed, and that’s what I want. But in the title, all the categories are displayed, and it seems I can’t control that. It makes the title too long.
Any suggestions on how to achieve this? (I would prefer to continue putting some posts in two categories, as there are some custom functions depending on that structure, and it is logical for some posts.)
