Support » Themes and Templates » Excerpts in category view in Tanzaku theme

    Hi –

    I’m using the lovely Tanzaku theme which does NOT have an archive.php or category.php file. I really really need to see post excerpts in the category view. I have enabled the “homepage excerpts plug-in” which gives me excerpts only in the main view.

    From all the instructions I’ve found on forums to replace “content” with “excerpt” – there doesn’t seem to be any place to do this in the index.php file. In fact the index.php seems very different from that of most themes.

    Also, the category view has ugly code coming up all over and I’m not sure why:

    This looks awful! could someone please help!

    Many thanks –

  • Warning: split() [function.split]: REG_EMPTY in /home/mazizweb/public_html/wp-content/themes/tanzaku/functions.php on line 69

    The theme has untrapped errors in its functions.php file.

    Thanks for the response – is there anyway around this? I’m quite new at this. Thanks again

    Done it!

    Managed to change the category view to excerpts. Since there’s no archive or category file I copied the index file and called it a “category.php”, and where it said

    <?php the_content(__(‘DetailsĀ»’));?>, I replaced content with excerpt.

    I had read about this method before but was confused because “category” is not mentioned anywhere in the index file. Also on the homepage the read more tag says “continue reading” and on the category view it says “details,” – so I looked for both in turn.

    I had read these instructions before but wasn’t able to work them with my theme structure till now:

    How to make category pages display post excerpts
