Support » Fixing WordPress » Excerpts do not show on category pages

  • Hi,

    On http://www.digital-balans.se the excerpts work fine on front page. The blog only show the first text block followed by the “Read more” link. However, when clicking on a link in the main menu, being a category page, the blogs’ first block is shown but the excerpt link “Read more” is not displayed. How do I fix this?

    The theme is Twenty Seventeen and I’m using a child theme.

    Would very much appreciate your kind advice.

    Best regards,
    Cecilia

  • Hello Cecilia,

    A simple way would be to use an SEO plugin such as Yoast SEO. Please check as well on this tutorial that will help you to set it up properly.

    Hope this information helps.

    Hi

    I’m afraid that the excerpts on the category pages still lack the Read more-link.

    Do you have any other suggestion or how to configurate the Yoast SEO so that this function is triggered to come alive?

    Best regards,
    Cecilia

    Hi,

    Have also added the string:
    <a href="<?php echo get_permalink(); ?>"> Read More...</a>

    … directly after the string in the content-excerpt.php-file, which did not help:
    <?php the_excerpt(); ?>

    So any idea what to try out next?

    Best regards,
    Cecilia

    It’s also strange that the category page Om mig (http://www.digital-balans.se/category/om-mig/) displays:

    – 2 posts with the Read more-link
    – 2 posts without the Read more-link

    I have compared the category and post settings for the categories and posts involved but cannot see any setting differences.

    Is there a bug in the theme somewhere?
