    Hello,

I have at last taken the step to disable the Classic plugin and start using Gutenberg. I have for a long time used blog systems in text editors in Joomla so I would really like to do the same in WordPress.

I have run into a for me serious issue when it comes down to excerpts. When I write an excerpt in the excerpt field to the right in Gutenberg and save the post or publish it the excerpt disappear.

I have search on Google and found different suggestion on how to solve this problem, including this one from StackExchange; Allow-excerpt-for-pages-in-gutenberg I try to add the code they suggested to my theme function file but it is not solving the problem.

Is there a way forward to solving this problem?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Finn

  • Hi, you shouldn’t need any code to use excerpts successfully in posts, so it could be a bug.

Do you see any errors in your browser’s Developer Tools console?

Does the problem still happen if you temporarily disable all plugins?

    Hi Ian,

    Thank you for your reply.

I am not 100% sure what the problem was, but after finding the below and solve it the excerpts is now working.

The REST API encounted an error
The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages.

The REST API request failed due to an error.
Error: [] cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

    Glad to hear it 🙂
