Excerpt with thumbnail image

  • On my main page, I’d like to have an excerpt of my post along with a thumbnail of a larger picture from the post. Is there any way I can do this?

  • Sure. Write your post like you normally would. Save the textbox “Optional Excerpt” for the HTML for your image (<img src="...). Then use the Limit Posts plugin to decide how many characters from the post will be displayed.

Use the_excerpt_rss() to display that image you have in the space for an excerpt (if you use the_excerpt it won’t display HTML) and use the_content_limit(410, "read more") or something similar to display the excerpt of the main post. You’d put that in place of the_content on your Main Index Template.

Another option that’ll allow more control of excerpts: http://guff.szub.net/2005/02/26/the-excerpt-reloaded/
