Support » Plugin: Import any XML or CSV File to WordPress » Excellent Plugin, Excellent Support, but Missing Comments Import

  • WPAI has been one of the most reliable plugins I’ve dealt with. I’ve been successfully able to import an XML file with over 40 fields per record and over 1200 records.

It took some time to figure out how to get set up, but with excellent support, I was eventually up and running.

When I ran into difficulties importing taxonomies, support helped with a code fix and it was working as expected.

This plugin made possible the ability to turn a 9-month manual data entry job into an import that might take a couple of hours (after coming up with the XML file).

I normally don’t spend time writing reviews like this, but the folks at Soflyy really did an excellent job with this plugin. I can’t recommend this tool enough.

I still use WPAI to import (i.e. create/update) posts and custom posts, and it has still been quite a reliable performer for those tasks.

Roughly four months ago, I even bought an add-on that allowed me to import over 900+ users from an XML file that I created after pulling from my static html site I’m still migrating from. That also worked pretty well. But it was in preparation for one of the last tasks I had to do to complete my site migration – importing comments.

I’ve made this request formally since four months ago, but from searching the support forum, I can see that other customers have made this request since over a year ago. I’m now currently in a situation where there I’m now forced to look elsewhere in order to perform this task.

It kind of baffles me why there’s still seemingly little movement regarding the ability to import comments. I would have been willing to pay for a WPAI add-on that would have done this.

But now that there are alternate plugins (there didn’t seem to be any before when I was looking for them in the past), I may have to fork over additional money on such plugins just to import comments.

It’s a shame that I am forced to spend more resources to test out these other plugins. WPAI had earned my trust with their pretty good support and functionality to this point. But not having comment importing (which I believe to be a pretty basic and inherent aspect of wordpress site management) is frustrating.

So far in my time spent on this exploration, I’ve found that in the case of WordPress Awesome Import Export Plugin, they also seem to do what WPAI do (possibly a more complete alternative to WPAI?). I’ll need to spend money with CodeCanyon to try it out, but I’m usually hesitant to buy from CodeCanyon because refunds only go back to CodeCanyon credits that expire instead of back to your bank. As for another plugin I tried, Comments Import Export WooCommerce isn’t attractive because it doesn’t do exports or imports of comments in custom post types natively.

I’m hoping Soflyy can finally have this feature soon. But until then, I had to revise my glowing review to point out this deficiency and the resulting additional time and money spent try to find alternatives.
