Excel file formats .xlsx doesnt work | WordPress.org

When I upload .xls files they can be downloaded by everyone however due to the complexity of my spreadsheets I have to have them in .xlsx format, however browsers like Chrome and Firefox download allow these to be downloaded. What can I do?

I could, but I need them to be available to everyone who may need them, so they could be accessed by phone or pc or tablet etc and some people wouldn’t have winzip etc to unzip them.

Sounds like a mime type problem on the server; try adding a mime type declaration to .htaccess http://www.freetutorialssubmit.com/apache-mime-type-configuration-to-open-docx-pptx-xlsx-ms-office-files/1436

Cheers, we tried this, but still no joy. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
