• Dear all, I’ve tried to re-structure my permalinks but with a typo my whole wp-admin and even the host server was crashed down. Should I re-install something “original” to have it fixed? Which file should I remove and re-install? the “.htaccess” or “feed-functions.php” or what?

    Thank u very much!

  • Delete .htaccess

First copy it to your machine though.

    Thanks! 🙂
I’ve copied it to my local server but then should i change anything of it before re-installation?

or should i creat a new .htaccess? i’m currently using v1.5.2

    thanks again (in desperation)

Yep – new one, chmod it to 666 and let WP fill it with the rules you need.

i’ve followed ur instruction and my blog comes up again! just that the permalinks and comments are in the wrong format (because of that single tiny typo) so i’ve tried to fix the permalink structure at the ‘Option’ section, but everytime i try to click ‘update’ the same old crash happens and i have to re-install a new .htaccess again…. what’s wrong? how can i save things from the shadow of that typo??

    thanks a lot!

Following Skippy’s suggestions to timothy15 on “Permalinks mess”:

If you can now access your permalinks page, delete any permalink structure defined there, and click Save. That should blank your .htaccess. (my result –> CRASH for the 100th times)

Or, create a blank .htaccess and remove write permission to it. In this way, WordPress will be unable to automatically add rewrite rules. (my result –> a 404 Not Found error)

And even if I delete the .htaccess file it automatically generates itself according to the wrong permanent structure, every attempts to update cause CRASHES. so i delete .htaccess again and the loop keeps going endlessly.

how can i eliminate the WRONG permanent structure and stop wp from generating the WRONG .htaccess? pls kindly help.

i was advised to try a trick and it worked out:

make a copy of the entire wp stuff and put it in a new folder so that wp will automatically generate a new .htaccess (for both root and this new dir) without falling into the loop…

    hope it helps!
