everything about this plugin is chaotic

It kind of works and docs are kind of helpful and some things work as expected, but for the most part this plugin and the extensions are hard to use, have lots of bugs and somewhat unpredictable. They recently made a major makeover of the plugin and released almost no explanation or migration path. I am totally lost trying upgrade my existing implementation to the new hooks and codebase with almost no documentation to go on and support that seems to be fairly indifferent.. but that has been pretty much the normal flow working with Mage the past few years. I am looking for a new events plugin for my website.
