• Hi

I everytime I upgrade to a new version of Jetpack I lose all connectivity to my Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr and LinkedIn accounts.

I have to go in and reset them all, re-save the links and check them to get them to work again. A save fixes it but why does it lose it all when I upgrade?

It’s a pain, a big pain to be honest. Making me stop upgrading WP and WP features to be honest whenever an upgrade to a new version of WP or Jetpack causes me problems.

The reason I am on 3.9.2 still is due to the fact no actual serious core code seems to get updated just pretty things and APIJizz (too much AJAX and sex n violence to make things look good but not actually do anything). I was doing my own version of the $wpdb attempt reconnect, loop, attempt reconnect, loop on “My Server Has Gone Away” errors ages ago – way before you put them in the class.

Everytime I have upgraded WP before now I have lost all my Twitter functioinality (Strictly TweetBOT), my Strictly AutoTag plugin stops tagging, and other errors or functions stop working – no rhyme or reason – and no debugging fixes it just lots of rebooting my server, Apache, re-saving plugin settings and nothing of importance – then it all suddenly starts working again) – takes a day out of my life – a stressful one – but it’s why I stopped upgrading as I don’t need that stress for no aparent gain.

Jetpack seems to have the same issues and I have reported them before, Omnisearch has issues with Cloudflare, Site Stats don’t work on my site and show another plugins dashboard, sharing buttons have previously contained JS bugs that have then broken other parts of the system and many other issues. I am loathe to try and turn anymore JP features on in case something else breaks.

Solutions to not having these issues on upgrades?

    Thanks

    I am on 3.9.2 still

Let’s start with this, as it’s really important. You’ll need to update Jetpack immediately, or disable it and delete it. Jetpack 3.9.2 includes an important vulnerability that was fixed in 2.9.3. Read more about it here:
    http://jetpack.me/2014/04/10/jetpack-security-update/

Since we’ve made several changes to Jetpack since then, it might also solve some of the other issues you’re having.

I everytime I upgrade to a new version of Jetpack I lose all connectivity to my Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr and LinkedIn accounts.

If this happens again when you update Jetpack as I mentioned above, can you please use Jetpack’s Debugger module to send us some more information about your site?

    1) Go to the Jetpack page in your dashboard.
    2) Click on the Debug link appearing at the bottom of the page.
    3) Click the link that says “click here to contact Jetpack support.”
    4) Fill in the description box and your name and email address.
    5) Click the “Contact Support” button.

    Thanks!

Everytime I have upgraded WP before now I have lost all my Twitter functioinality (Strictly TweetBOT), my Strictly AutoTag plugin stops tagging

I’d suggest contacting the plugin author about this issue, and looking at how your own plugin handles the updates to try to understand the issue.

Since the problem happens with different plugins, including your own, it might be worth testing things with a different site, on a different server, to make sure the problem is not limited to your own site.

    Omnisearch has issues with Cloudflare

You previously reported conflicts between Omnisearch and Strictly Tweetbot (see original thread here), but we were never able to reproduce the issue.

Could you give me more details about that issue with CloudFlare?

Site Stats don’t work on my site and show another plugins dashboard

I believe you’re referring to the conflict with the WP-O-Matic plugin you reported here. I’m afraid I still can’t reproduce when installing and activating WP-O-Matic on one of my test sites.
If you still experience the issue when running the latest version of Jetpack and an unmodified version of WP-O-Matic, please comment on the thread you started about this issue.

sharing buttons have previously contained JS bugs that have then broken other parts of the system and many other issues.

Reference. We’ve now removed the Digg button from Jepack, as their official library wasn’t supported anymore and caused the issue you were having. You can read more about it here:

Just to let you know I had major issues when trying to upgrade to WP 4.1 yesterday > https://wordpress.org/support/topic/fatal-errors-24?replies=9

    The same thing happened again
-Fatal Errors due to files not being copied e.g functions.php in wp-includes
and having to manually copy them as the WP Admin or a FULL WP FTP update didn’t work
    -Jetpack issues
-My own plugin issues e.g tagging wasn’t being done on articles being fed in from feeds and no tweets going out after from my TweetBot
-My whole sites theme being screwed up. A simple save on the settings as it suggests didn’t fix it and for some reason it said a “total theme upgrade” had been done. I had to manually re-arrange my menus, cancel pages/categories from showing and so on

It seemed like you had to manually go in and
-Re-Save all my own settings on my own plugins to get the plugins “into WP Memory” or cache or something like that. Only when I had re-saved all settings did the AutoTagging/Tweeting start working again on imported articles
    -A manual push on WP-O-Matic
-Disconnecting and re-connecting all Publicize options to get social media functions back

All plugings are upgraded to the latest versions but I still had to do all of that.

Also now there are WYSIWYG editor issues where the “Text” and “Visual” buttons have swapped over, no scrolling of content (a scrollbar on the editor like you used to have would be good so I can select content and bold/link it without having to scroll back up to see the buttons) – it seems the editor is getting worse and worse for some reason.

Other issues are listed in that link but I am not upgrading my other site as I see no reason to unless its a
    -security
    -site performance

    related update

I can handle most of my own security but if you are adding indexes to tables or changing queries for performance I can see the benefit but having a nightmare with fatal errors and so on is a lot of work to take on.

    Thought I would update you

That seems like a lot of issues indeed.

At first, I thought the problem was linked to something wrong going on with the WordPress update system on your site, but since you get the same issues when updating manually via FTP, My guess would be that something is up with file permissions.

Since you experience so many problems, you might be better off reinstalling WordPress and your plugins from scratch to solve all these issues.

Great, I look forward to that!

I think I will stick to the existing version until there is a security hole that you are fixing or performance in display etv.
