I’m new at wordpress.org and first time building a website with wordpress. So when this is the wrong topic please tell me.

Everytime I try to install a template it isn’t working correctly. The slider or header is gone and the posts are all aligned weird. Also can’t really customize this.

This is the template I try to work with: https://dessign.net/creative-portfolio-theme-responsive-free/
I tried on different templates as well and its also not working.

With the creative portfolio template the slider seems to be there but there is no content. Can’t add the content somewhere and can’t change the slider.

I hope someone can help me!

I post this again because it was closed last time and couldn’t replay back.
I understand that the template is not supported on these forums, but its not only with this template it with all the templates I’m using. I posted one as draft to my wordpress so you can see what I mean: http://thomvanalphen.nl/?customize_changeset_uuid=ab81c998-40b4-4c88-a980-b1c5514571ee

Its not working at all as you can see. All the templates i try have the same problem.
So please don’t close it this time!

    Hi,

What you’re saying doesn’t quite make sense.

You’re installing something called a “theme” that you acquired from Dessign.net.

In WordPress, you may only activate 1 theme at a time.

What you’re saying is that you tried activating this theme with other themes at the same time.

If that’s not the case, can you re-explain the problem?

No I tried different themes/templates to check if they had the same problem. I also did this with themes that are on the wordpress.org page.

To be clear, I didn’t try to install the themes at the same time. I just tried different themes.

What was a typical issue you had generically while setting up other themes? Is it that you had difficulty matching your website homepage with the theme’s demo homepage? If so, that’s a different problem to the one you’re discussing regarding the ‘Creative portfolio template’ in your commercial theme.

That’s one of the problems, but also the slider is completely gone in all the themes(if they don’t have sliders the header was gone). so the information on the page all shifted up and the whole layout wasn’t working. I also tried to put a picture in the slider or header but there are no options to edit this.

I am having the same or a similar problem. If I activate the 2017 Theme, it looks and acts exactly the way it looks on the Theme page. However, if I activate the 2016 Theme the website has none of the pictures and the formatting is all different.

This is what the 2016 Theme looks like on my website.

I have also found in trying a number of different Themes that a few (like 2017) appear correctly, but the majority look like the 2016 Theme – no pictures or formatting.

When you’re discussing problems with themes in general, this is an issue with the theme documentation or lack of it. Themes nowadays have complicated Homepage structures that will not be there when activating the theme. You have to set up the theme in a particular way that is documented by the theme developer and there is not one solution for you.

If you can’t set up the Homepage as per the theme’s demo site, you need to address this in the theme’s support section.

    1. Find and click on your theme from the repository: https://wordpress.org/themes/
    2. Once on your theme’s page, find and click on the “View support forum” button
    3. Scroll all the way down and create a new topic

If your theme was distributed outside of WordPress.org then you’ll need to contact your theme vendors or authors directly.

@thomvanalphen, You’re facing 2 issues and in both cases you need to contact your theme author for support. One is that you cannot set up the Homepage of your installed theme as I’ve just discussed. The other is that you’re having an issue with a specific feature of your theme.

When your thread was closed, the answer given by the moderator gave you all the information you needed to know. You’re having an issue with the theme you acquired outside of WordPress.org and you need to contact the people who gave you this theme.
