Events on Homepage?

What’s the right way to create the events as the homepage?

because the events aren’t an actual WordPress page, I can’t set it as the home in settings->reading

I know that if I create a page with a shortcode to the event calendar all would be good… but I’m not finding a shortcode… am I missing something?

Or is there an easy way to create the event listings in a page template, and set a page to use that template ?

I’m essentially wanting my homepage to be a listing of events…

What are my options here?
