Support » Plugin: amr ical events lists » Events in Multiple Time Zones – Displaying Local Time

  • Resolved OperaDad

I have a calendar with performance events that take place in more than one time zone, both different than my WordPress installation.

Is there any way to display event times using the local timezone of the event?

The reason for doing this is so that people traveling to an event will see the local time for the event on the website, and to make sure times/alarms are correct for iPhone users who have enabled timezone support and import the events into their calendars.

Apple (iCloud) calendar appears to store TZID information correctly in their .ics, and amr-ical-events reads the times correctly, but I can only display them ALL in the users (or WP server) timezone, or in whatever zone is specified in the tz=timezonestring parameter.

I even tried separate Google calendars for each timezone – but since Google .ics stores ALL events using GMT, there is no TZ information stored for each event; that will probably never work.

Dear OperaDad (love to hear the story behind that name!),

at moment, no, no way – so far there has always been one timezone per page (although one can add some links/(icons with links)to refresh the page in another timezone.
HOWEVER I’m going to look at the code and see how easy/hard it would be to enable – might be simple, in which case it’ll be up in the next update.

RE times/alarms should always be fine because in the mini ics files that get imported the times will always be relative to a timezone, so any half decent alarm/calendar app should then adjust that time for the users timezone and ‘alarm’ at the right moment.

(Daughter is an opera singer – I want to list her gigs at the local time, at the city where they take place, just like one would expect for any music venue)

It seems simple – whatever process loops through the event records and rewrites the time formats to include the offset could modify that offset depending on the TZID. User interface could be just a checkbox that says, “Always display time local to event…”

Yours could be the only plugin that does this – essential for my application 😉

Thanks again so much for the quick reply!!!

Hi, there is a ‘beta’ version here:

    use use shortcode parameter: show_in_events_timezone=1

Note: this is at own risk, just finished tonight, basic testing indicates it works fine. I will be away out of wifi and even electricty and mobile reception for the next week.

If you have any feedback, please post back here.

When I return, plugin will undergo further changes after checking all add_query_arg calls as per recent wp advice.

Yay! Looks like it’s working great, thanks so much. I will continue to test and report any issues. Thanks again – great plugin, and great support!
