I am not able to update Events in the backend anymore. Whenever I click the “update” button in the Publish box, nothing happens. The browser consoel shows no errors whatsoever.

This happens exclusively with event post types, I can edit and update regular posts or pages just fine.

The last thing I did was migrating the old events to the new format.

I’m running The Events Calendar 6.0.4 on WordPress 6.1.1, my browser is Firefox 106.0.5 64-Bit.

  • My environment is:
    PHP: 7.4
    WordPress: 6.1.1
    The Events Calendar: 6.0.4
    Theme: Avada 7.8.2
    Browser: Safari
    Operating System: Mac OS 10.15.7

Since plugin update the ‘Update’ button has be unresponsive, all I’m able to do is a ‘Quick Edit’ which is basically useless for content. I haven’t done the Upgrade again, as the problem occurred after the update and continued with the upgrade the first time I tried it. Waiting for a solution to this issue for as long as I can, but will probably have to revert back to previous version of plugin.

    PHP:8.0
    Wordpress Version: 6.1.1
    The Events Calendar: 6.0.4
    Theme: Poseidon Pro 2.2.3
    Broswer Firefox: 107
    OS: Win 10 Pro 22H

Since migrating/updating the data for the plugin as requested this has caused a serious issue as like other users have posted, just saving an event as a draft and going back into it to publish, the publish button does not work or do anything. Tried rolling back the migration and issue is still there.

Hi everyone, I appreciate you providing more details here. I am investigating further regarding this issue, and I’d get back to this thread whenever I learn more about this issue.

Apologies for the inconvenience. I’d recommend rolling back to the last working version 6.0.3.x of the plugin. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/accessing-older-plugin-versions/#Installing_past_plugin_versions

    Thank you,
    Abz

    Same issue exactly for me.

    PHP:7.4.29
    wordpress: 6.1.1
    The Events Calendar: 6.0.4
    Theme and Version: Matheson 1.0.5

I use a Mac with Safari.

    Thanks @tlindner for the workaround.

Latest versions as everyone else. Avada theme (PHP7.4). Very bizarre with no console errors

Hi everyone, apologies for the inconvenience here. We were able to pinpoint that specific browser shows Javascript Errors within the Venue Section, in the admin dashboard not allowing to update the Events. We already created an internal bug ticket for this, and I added your case. Thanks for all the details. I will definitely pass it along to our devs.

I am unable to provide an exact date or time estimate for when this bug will be fixed, but you’ll be notified when there are any updates.

For now, as a workaround, you could do the following:

    1. Use Chrome Browser only for Admin Dashboard
    2. Or, Downgrade to version 6.0.2. Accessing and Installing Older Plugin Versions

    Best,
    Abz

    Server side:
    Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)
    nginx/1.14.2
    PHP:7.4
    Wordpress Version: 6.1.1
    The Events Calendar: 6.0.5
    Theme: Betheme Versie: 26.6.5

    client side
    Broswer Firefox: 107.0.1 (64-bit)
    OS: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS

as a workaround i set the location to nothing, then update, put the location back and update again. After that the update button is going nowhere.

    looking forward to your solution

Hi @cybered, thanks for providing more information here. This is helpful. Yes, that could also work. I appreciate you sharing this workaround as well.

    Hang in there,

    Hi,

    Same problem here with:
    Firefox 107.0.1 (64 bits) – Windows 10
    Server Apache
    PHP 8.1.12
    Wordpress 6.1.1
    Woocommerce 7.1.1
    Theme Spacious 1.9.5

    Work fine on Googl Chrome.

The rollback solution does not work. Now getting PHP errors (AH01071: Got error ‘PHP message: the-events-calendar/common – Log: Initializing Tribe Events on Dec, 13th at 07:12:06 pm) and now none of the navigation buttons are working on the events page of the main site. This all started after data migration as well as updating the plugin to the latest version. So there are two potential bugs here.

Even reversing the data migration and restoring the plugin back to 6.02 has not worked. Only option is to wipe current site and restore back to a point before the data migration and switch off the updates and not do the migration until this is all sorted.

Hi @hmpgit, sorry to hear about this. I suspect that the migration didn’t go smoothly. Please follow the URL here on how to troubleshoot migration issues → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/migrating/#Troubleshooting.

This appears to be a known issue with The Events Calendar: https://theeventscalendar.com/known-issues/#tec-4596
Options: Downgrade the Events plugin, downgrade WordPress, or use the hack of removing the location before updating (then putting it back)

Hi @dolfindans, yes the main thread is regarding that issue on our known issue with the Javascript Errors with our Venue Section.

For now, there’s no other workaround other than downgrading or just using Chrome for Admin Dashboard.

Also appreciate you sharing that workaround. That could also be the case for other users. Thank you for mentioning it.

    Hang in there,

Downgrading doesn’t solve the issue and creates new ones. Now the plugin runs a weird Cron job every single visit to the calendar main page (like ?doing_wp_cron=1671564961.8107199668884277343750) and then refuses to show added events or the previous/next event buttons don’t work or the toggle between views doesn’t work. Then suddenly they will work only for the cron job to run again and then they disappear.

Even wiped database and restored pre migration and problem just returns. Is there a conflict with PHP version as well as javascript and something else going on?

This part of site is completely broken and this plugin caused it.

Hi @hmpgit, sorry to hear about this. That’s weird. Could you try using PHP 7.4? We have limited support for PHP 8.

To be safe, we’d recommend conducting tests and updates on a Staging Server. Also, please keep a working backup of your website.
