Events Calendar with API

I am building a new WP site and I installed “The Events Calendar” plugin. What I really need is an events calendar that will create a page. The difficult part is that a need an API to place in the body section of the home page that shows the first few events, and then a link to the full calendar page. Most of these calendars come with a widget that does this, but they need to be placed in the footer or side bar. I need it in the copy area.

Can anyone suggest a plugin or app?
