Events calendar does not obey general date settings

I want to change the date format for events calendar. As far as I understood, TEC follows the date format as configured in the WP General settings. However that is not the case here. Whatever date format I set in the general settings, TEC sticks to <month> <day> (However the format does change in the rest of the website)

Strangely enough it does listen to the time settings. When I change that in the WP backend, the TEC time format changes with it. So it’s limited to the date format.

I already disabled all other plugins and tried other theme’s but without luck.
