Event Tickets 5.6.0 RSVP for free events ?
-
Hi,
With 5.6.0 the RSVP block is no longer activated for free events without a valid e-commerce solution.
As such it breaks our non profit reservation system.
Any solution to this ?
Thanks

Hi @avu ,
Thank you for reaching out, and I’m sorry to learn of the difficulties.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to reproduce this behavior in my testing environment, that’s running only The Events Calendar, Event Tickets, and Twenty-twenty-one theme. — When using the block editor, I am able to see both Ticket and RSVP blocks, with the latter showing the message “There is no RSVP configured” and the former showing the message “There is no e-commerce available” (expected behavior). Are you saying you only see the ticket block?
If it is the case, I suspect a conflict that could be causing the issue here. It would be good to test for conflicts. Could you follow the following steps?
- Deactivate all other plugins except for The Events Calendar Plugins.
- Switching to the Default theme.
Please read the Testing for Conflicts Article before doing anything.
To be safe, we’d recommend conducting tests and updates on a Staging Server. Also, please keep a working backup of your website.Hi @tristan083,
Thanks for looking to our issue.
You say : When using the block editor, I am able to see both Ticket and RSVP blocks, with the latter showing the message “There is no RSVP configured” and the former showing the message “There is no e-commerce available” (expected behavior). Are you saying you only see the ticket block?
The RSVP feature works fine indeed with free events and no tickets when using a fresh WordPress 6.2.2 running Twenty Twenty-One theme, The Events Calendar 6.1.1 and Events Tickets 5.6.0. The backoffice event creation GUI has the classic WP look with all the possible fields displayed.
When using our production theme the backoffice event creation GUI has the Gutenberg block look and the RSVP block, when configured for free events with no tickets, is either “not currently active” or when edited retains the settings (seats, dates etc.) but the “Update RSVP” button is grey inactive. The RSVP block is never displayed in the Front Office, so no reservation possible. With Twenty Twenty-Three the backoffice look is classic but the price cannot be configured to 0 and the RSVP does not show in Front Office.
So this new expected behaviour in Event Tickets and Registration 5.6.0 “There is no payment gateway configured. To create tickets, you’ll need to enable and configure an ecommerce solution” is a problem for us as we do not have nor need a valid ecommerce solution for our free events and our visitors can no longer register.
We will stay for the moment with the previous Events and Tickets versions without the nice enhancements and appreciate any advice.
Regards,
Hi @avu
Unfortunately, we’re not fully compatible with FSE themes yet like 2023.
Could you provide the version of the following? This will help me understand how your system is set up.
- PHP
- Production Theme
Hi Darian,
The site was created on PHP 7.4 from a ready made template : WP 6.2 core > Kadence Theme + K Blocks + K Template Plugins > Children Museum > install Full Site, plus some service plugins (backup, security, …) everything up to date.
Good news : while preparing this answer on a staging site, Event Tickets upgraded from version 5.6.0.1 to 5.6.0.2 and now the RSVP block can be be configured with a fixed price = 0 no ecommerce and shows up as expected in the front office.
Our problem seems solved, it’s a nice plugin and even better with the new email settings.
Thanks again for your time !
Regards
