Event Image Thumbnail

i want to display the event image thumbnail in my default event list. i am using the format as directed here:

#_EVENTIMAGE{x,y}
Shows the event image thumbnail, x and y are width and height respectively, both being numbers e.g. #_EVENTIMAGE{100,100}

the event image shows up just fine if i do #_EVENTIMAGE, but when i add the curly brackets with dimensions, it does not display the image.
