We have set up an event contributor role (using Members plugin) which appears to work correctly except for event tags. Tags do not appear in the Events menu and the Tags metabox does show in add/edit an event but is empty.
If we add the WP capability manage_categories to the role the Tags appear in the Events menu and can be added/edited/updated/deleted from there but the metabox for the event add/edit is still empty.
Following the WP unwritten standards, having manage_events_categories capability should permit tags editing for events and the tags metabox should work correctly if it is displayed.

    Hi,

    Thanks for using our plugins.

The Event Tags are also Post Tags so they would have to be able to edit those to edit the Tags under events.

Can the role you setup edit post tags as well?

    Well, No.

The events contributor can only edit events. Where the WP manage_categories capability includes Post Tags, it would make sense for the manage_events_categories to include Event Tags (but not post tags).

If the manage_categories capability is added, the user can also edit Post Tags which is undesirable.

The really strange part is that the Events Tags metabox is displayed if manage_events_categories is permitted but the box is empty which suggests that it should be populated but something prevents it.

Ok if you let the user edit tags for posts and use the Admin Menu Editor to hide that menu item would that work?

I am not sure if there is a way to give some access to the events, but not posts as they are the same thing.
