Support » Plugin: The Events Calendar » Event Category v. Post Category

  • Resolved Dean

I followed instructions in KB to add Events to the the Blog Loop. That works fine and my events are now blog posts.

Now I want to limit the blog posts to a single (maybe more) Event Category. But it seems Event Category ID functions only as a filter for the Calendar and can’t be used to filter posts. I’ve tried in Customizer and some code I found on internet

How do I find the Post Category ID for an Event Category that is now a post?

I found your snippit to Enable ‘default’ categories for Events. I am almost there. The issue now is that both categories are listed above title. For example, check out

    Default cat = Hikes
TEC cat = Hiking With Dean

If I remove the TEC cat from Event, then it won’t appear on Calendar as category.

Am I on the right path, or is there a more straightforward way of handling an Event Category like a Post Category?

Thanks for reaching out! First, I do want to clarify that adding events to the main blog loop just modifies that loop to include events, but it doesn’t change events into posts – events are still a separate post type. The main calendar views will only pick up on event categories by default – if you wanted to include a different taxonomy, such as the post categories that you added to events, you would need to customize the events views to look for that taxonomy as well – we have some knowledge articles on customizing our plugins, which would be a good place to start if you would like to go this route.

However, you might want to instead look at using tags. The tags that events use are the same ones that posts use, so it sounds like this option would require less customizing to get things working the way that you need.

Let me know if this works for you or if you have any questions!
