Support » Plugin: Etsy Importer » Etsy Importer: Custom post type breaks category/tag pages?

  • Hello WordPress Gurus (and wow, 8 years since my last post??!),

I’m creating a cool new website for my wife to showcase her fine crafted products in her upcoming Etsy store. I installed the helpful Etsy Importer plugin. I really like how this plugin pulls content from Etsy and creates new product posts to match/sync (cool!).

    The challenge:
When I enable the Etsy Importer module, a few things happen:
-All category pages break, resulting in “not found” errors when clicking to view any category (quickly resolved by disabling the plugin). Not a .htaccess issue as clean/pretty urls still work for posts and when the Etsy Importer plugin is disabled.
-New product categories and tags are not listed in widgets that show categories and tags
-There are no product-related widgets available to use for this plugin specifically that I can see, making me think that there’s something up with the previous item.
-No other new plugins are installed/enabled as I build this site.

    …but I LOVE the import/sync capabilities!…

Is there a cache or something I should clear after enabling the plugin?

Thanks for taking a look! 😀

    Chris

Not sure what’s going on with the first part, since we use custom taxonomies for the plugin, and that sounds like an odd case of pagination issues with the term archives.

Despite showing as “Categories” and “Tags” in the menu, the taxonomies are actually etsy_category and etsy_tag. Chances are the widgets don’t know about these taxonomies at all.

No widgets provided, but there are shortcodes available to help, and you can create your own things since it’s a post type with post meta and some taxonomies available.

No caching involved outside whatever the user has installed already and their browsers.

Thanks for the super fast response!

I’ll give it another go today or tomorrow with fresh eyes. I don’t mind developing a widget if needed as well. I’ll let you know what I find in regards to enabling the plugin causing default category pages and such to break. I’ll add plenty of test content and take it out of my local environment to see if that makes a difference as well.

    Updates soon!

    Hello Michael,
Just a quick follow-up. After I started adding test content to the site, the issues I was having with category URLs went away. With that, I would say this request is resolved! Sorry to bug you this. 🙁

    Thanks for your support.

    UNRELATED and OPTIONAL:
Before I start pulling out wires and fuses with some custom requests, are you familiar with a plugin that makes custom lists of Etsy products (or any post type) customize-able? So far I’ve tried Advanced Post List, but its settings page won’t load when both Etsy Importer and Advanced Post List are enabled. My gut says I just need to roll up my sleeves and create a custom widget for my custom request (a products listing page with columns and thumbnails).

    Onward!

Good to hear the category url issue went away.

No, not really on the last part. If something can be done using a custom post type, it’d be doable with the imported products from our plugin, which utilizes a custom post type itself.
