Esplanade – Images in Posts Problem

In the example site for the Esplanade theme, it shows the list of post excerpts with images for each post displayed. I’m having trouble getting my image posts to display on the home page, however. I have chosen the standard layout/format for the post. The list of posts shows text only. However, when I go to the single post page, the images display very well.

Also, in the slider of sticky posts at the top, there is room left for the image, but it’s blank. No image shows there.

What do I have to do to make the images appear on the home/blog page?
