Hello, I manage a site for a client where I use eShop for the cart. I set up Zones 1-8 for USPS Shipping Priority Mail, with Zone 1 being closest to him, or $5.25. Each time I run a test with my own zip code which is 4 miles away, for some reason eShop uses Zone 7 – $9.50. No other zip codes that I know does this happen, but I’m not sure.

    Can you recommend a fix?

  • eShop doesn’t use zip codes to determine postal zones. It uses states, counties or provinces.

    OK, then I mis-stated my issue/question.

When setting up my client’s shipping, I used Zones 1 – 8 for USPS Mail and added a chart in his checkout showing the shipping amount for each zone. My own address should be Zone 1 ($5.25) as I am 4 miles from my client.

The point is, when I run an order TEST in my client’s cart using my own home mail address in Ship To, for some reason I am being charged Zone 7 shipping or $9.50. I do not know how to resolve this; happens every test.

I could send screenshot if I knew how to attach here.

Are you using countries or states/counties/provinces for your shipping?

Oh my, I think I just figured it out. I logged in so I could answer you because I did not initially set this part up. So within the shipping settings (using Method 4 by weight/zone) then state/county/province is in next box, BUT the one line – Default Zone for Unknown State/County/Province was set to 7. So when I used my own mailing address, for some reason the eShop does not recognize it so it was defaulting to use zone 7. If I change that to be 3, and try a test, it reduces the shipping accordingly.

So yes, it is a bug. There is no reason my mailing address 4 miles from my client should not be recognized. What can I do?

It’s not a bug. eShop is doing exactly as you asked it to do via your shipping configuration.

the reason I said bug is – why doesn’t it recognize my mailing address 4 miles away? If the shipping settings are set to State/County/Province and I am in Florida just like my client, why would my mailing address use the *unknown* default zone?

why doesn’t it recognize my mailing address 4 miles away?

Do you seriously expect the plugin to figure out where you live in relation to your client?

why would my mailing address use the *unknown* default zone?

Because you didn’t select Florida as your state and/or opted to complete the “Other Location” box when you want to the checkout. As I said, eShop is doing what it has been told to do given the info you supplied.

Actually, I figured it out on my own. The shopping cart needed to be updated. There was no State to select in the older version.

I may not have worded my question correctly, but I knew there had to be something internally not set up right. I am a graphic designer who was looking for help. I did not install eShop or set it up, but it needed resolve. So once updated, the proper selections became available.

Your sarcasm did not help and was uncalled for. I will look elsewhere in the future.

State has been an option in Shipping & in the Checkout since eShop was first released 5 years ago. So whatever this was, it was an issue that was specific to your site and nothing to do with the plugin itself.

Did you bother to look at the plugin’s extensive documentation?
Why didn’t you post a link to the site so we could see the checkout page?
Why didn’t you check that you were using the latest version of the plugin before posting?
