Hi. The plugin works in general and we’re happy. However, today a visitor on our website was trying to sign up (which works flawlessly usually), and she got this message:

Sorry, but we couldn’t connect to the MailPoet server. Please refresh the web page and try again.

    Questions:

    1. Why is there a “Mailpoet” message? Why does this plugin connect to Mailpoet website at all? I thought this is something we have installed on our server, and the cron job is setup to send the emails from OUR smtp? This is highly disconcerting.
    2. Why was this server down anyway? Presuming Mailpoet server absolutely needs to be involved (which means we will re-evaluate this plugin altogether), then what’s the uptime of the server?
    3. Is this error message customizable? I don’t see it in our dashboard.
    4. Thank you.

No response? Would appreciate some pointers.

    Hi there @pkiula,

    Apologies about the delay.

The error message itself isn’t entirely accurate as you are correct that the form does not connect to MailPoet itself at all, our server is not used for any aspect of that.

We’ll make a note internally to update the message as it’s not an error message that is editable without modifying core MailPoet files.

The error message usually happens due to either a caching issue or an issue with a security plugin blocking the admin-ajax.php request. Do you have any security plugins installed at all?

    Thanks!

Thank you. I have Clearfy installed to get rid of REST API, RSS, emojis, and all the gunk that WordPress adds by default. There’s no option here for “Admin-ajax”. Which option would that be?

    Hi there @pkiula,

Admin-ajax.php is a default part of WordPress and is something most plugins make some use of. There’s a good guide here; https://codex.wordpress.org/AJAX_in_Plugins

Can you link us to a page where we can test the form, please?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

If you’d rather send us a link via email, you can send it via this form; https://www.mailpoet.com/support/wordpress-forums/

    Thanks!
