Support » Fixing WordPress » Error within Widgets

  • Heyy,

I am currently attempting to update my website after purchasing a new theme. I want to edit the widgets on my theme, in particular the ones on my sidebar. However, every time I try to delete/create a new sidebar widget and then click update, I get a message on the bottom of my screen that say’s ‘There was an error. You are probably offline.’ does anyone know what this means and how I fix this? I am logged into my account so how can I be offline? Please see attached image to see what I mean.

  • Hello,

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble doing that .

I would recommend switching to a default theme, and try taking the steps again.

If it works, you might want to contact your theme author to check the conflict for you.

The message displayed indicates a server-side error while saving. This should be listed in the error log of your hosting. The support of your hoster can certainly help you to find this.

Alternatively, you can also activate the debug mode in WordPress, see: https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/ – there you would also be able to see this in the debug.log.
