error with installation-Famous 5-minute install

  • I’ve had this come up every time I try to install wp. I have my db set up, and have added all of the info on my wp_config file. Looking at the read me file, I open wp-admin/install.php in my browser, but all that I see is a php page as in “view source” mode. Where am I going wrong? The browser I’m using is chrome. Thanks!

  • Where are you installing this? Local or Remote?

Not knowing if you just truncated it for the post, but the URL you would use to access the install is:

    http://www.yourdomain.com or http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php

On a local install, it would be:

    http://localhost/name_of_folder_where_WP_is

If you can see the page source code, it most likely means that PHP is not running on the server. You need to contact your hosting company to check that your hosting supports PHP.

My host runs php 5, and I have another wordpress page running, but I couldn’t get that one installed on my own either. I had to call my ISP to get them to set it up. I suppose I’ll have to do the same this time.
