# Error with a database connection

 * I just tried to load my blog and was told that there was an error establishing
   a database connection. It worked fine this morning and I haven’t even posted 
   since then. Any ideas?
 * Here is the message from I get when I type in the URL (www.afrolicofmyown.com):
 * Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection
   information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try 
   again.
 * Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
 * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
 * Are you sure that the database server is running?

 * Could be a problem with your host. This happened to me not too long ago. I just
   checked back later and everything worked fine.

 * If you want to do something, you could contact your hosting provider and ask 
   if anything is wrong with your MySQL server.

 * Are you using shieldhost.com? The same thing has happened to me twice now. I 
   re-installed and it came back. Today: *poof!* It’s broke again. =^(

 * Ok, rookie mistake: the problem wasn’t shieldhost.com, it was the installation
   of an unconfigured plugin. (coppermine)

 * I occasionally run into this problem with my host. When I checked the error messages
   from the database server it claimed that there were “too many connections”. Apparently
   too many people were already using the server at that time. This MIGHT be what
   is going on in your case as well. If it is, all you can do is try back later,
   or get your host to increase the user limit on the database server.

 * Yeah, that’s what was up with me. I get 2000 or so hits a day and keep getting
   connection errors because my MySQL can only handle 15 connections at once. Sheesh…
   that’ll teach me to not do my research before installing a blogging tool that
   uses MySQL!! I just wish I could figure out how to tweak the standard WordPress
   error page.

 * Unless you’re getting a really good deal (Free, IOW), you should consider switching
   to a host which can actually handle a light blogging platform like WordPress.
