• Hi there, I am having an annoying error when trying to upload a .jpg. It shows an pop up warning saying an error has occurred and created the same file more than 1000 times (of course I did not uploaded manually the same file 1000 times).
I have the same problem with two files and stopped uploaded because I’m having more than 300 pages of media files, when I only tried to upload just two files

And those file (.jpg and .png) are useless, I can’t see o use them in the website.

    http://prntscr.com/5htu9k

How can I fix this? In spite of having more than 6000 files in the admin, in the ftp folder of this month I only got the 6 files I really uploaded

Erase the useless files and get to work the uploader?

    Thanks!

  • I would suggest you contact your hosting provider to see if any error is being logged on the actual server. I’ve never seen this type of file duplication.

Are you using the WPML Media plugin? If so, you’ll need to upgrade it as the older version has a conflict with WordPress 4.0 with the symptoms you describe. Simply upgrading it will fix the problem.

    * WPML Media – Uploading any media leads to an error and a large amount of identically named (and corrupted) files. Upgrade to resolve.

    Hi MrSnarf,

So upload a JPG file, or PNG file, to your Media Library and you get an error message. Then you look in your Media Library and you see hundreds of pages with the same image over and over. And yet, in reality, when you look via FTP you only see a few files. Oh, and the images are corrupt and cannot be viewed, right?

Wow, like John above, I too have never seen nor heard of anything like this and most certainly would report it to your web host. I would also reflect back on anything I did (e.g., changes to settings, plugins, themes, etc.) prior to things going haywire.

Additionally, I would deactivate all plugins and switch back to a default theme (such as Twenty Fourteen) and test uploading again. The idea here is to see if a default install of WordPress still exhibits your most awesome bug. Sorry, I am a Software Test Engineer by trade so bugs like this really tend to get me going.

    Sincerely,

    Randy

Ah ha! We’ve got your suspect plugin. Thank you Jeff! 🙂

Thanks to all guys. I’ll try these solutions and let you know.

    Thanks again!

You’re welcome MrSnarf. Looking forward to hearing some good news!

Ok! so I finally did it!
Jeff, you where right! I was using the WPML Media plugin. Updated (not easy thing) and worked perfectly!.

Now I just have to erase 8596 files from the admin hehe. Is there a way to display more than 20 items at once, lets say 8596? So I can select them all at once and avoid the tedious work of deleting just 20 items 430 times?

    thanks again to all!

Yay! As for your question about displaying more than 20 items at a time, while in the Media Library, just click Screen Option in the upper right hand side of the page and adjust the Media items setting and click Apply.

Note that I have had good luck with up to about 200 items at a time. After that, things got kinda sluggish. But, heck, be brave and see what happens! 🙂

MrSnarf I have the same exact problem, but the plugin WPML Media does not appear to be outdated. How did you update it?

First of all sorry for the late response!
Thanks Randy again! Just found it!

Hi Piaferre for updating WPML the best reference I could fin was this one:
http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/ and this one (because I could update it although I was logged in: http://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-auto-update-not-working/

In my case I had to go to Settings/Repositories and log in to wpml.org from there. After finding that, its all very easy. To see if the plugin needs updating you have to go to Plugins. Right now the last version for WPML Media is Version 2.1.8 .

Hope can solve this, if you haven’t already!

No worries MrSnarf, just once again glad to hear your issues have been resolved. Do be sure to mark this thread “resolved” using the dropdown in the sidebar. 🙂

P.S., piaferre, if your issue continues, I highly suggest starting a support thread of your own. This way you’ll be more likely to get the help you need.
