Support » Fixing WordPress » Error when updating RSS feed

  • I was tooling around in the plugin section my dashboard. Although I didn’t remove any coding, now I get the following error on my website, and all my sidebar content (feed, archives, etx) are missing:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/content/j/e/n/jenmichalski/html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/was-imjtk-1/was-imjtk-1/sidebar.php on line 24

I can’t figure out what this means or where to fix–any ideas?

  • well, it tells you precisely where… line 24 of that file right there.

though it seems you’re suffering from double-directory syndrome.. do you have a theme within a theme uploaded in there?

usually those errors result from missing semi-colons, or open-ended quotes and such. it’ll be a simple punctuation error in that file, unless it’s a direct result of the double-directory syndrome.

How do I cure a double-directory? (It does appear that was-imjtk-1/was-imjtk-1 appears twice.) Also, I’m a javascript newbie–someone else created this site for me, and I’ve just been fooling around in it trying to become acquainted with the back-end stuff, but I’ve counted to line 24 in the RS editor and in the sidebar editor and can’t find this “T string.”

    Thanks for your help!

no no, you won’t find the ‘t string’ in there, it will be a missing piece of punctuation at the end of line, most likely… like…

    somefunction(‘something’) <— missing semi-colon!

    or … something like that.

the double directory syndrome comes from uploading your theme folder into itself.

you’ll need to check via FTP that you don’t have it uploaded twice – and if you do, you should delete the deeper one.

I can’t do anything on my site. I can’t get to dashboard because whenever I type my URL in this comes up.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/thescri1/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1208

    Someone please help!
