• Purchased a new theme and trying to upload it. When I click Add Theme, I get the following error message: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.

    What to do??
    Thanks.

Is this issue specific to the theme you purchased, have you tried uploading another?

Hi Andrew. When I go to Themes and click on the “Add New” button is when I get the error message. So I can’t get far enough to try to upload it yet.

    Thanks.

There may be a conflict or corruption in your setup. There is not much to go on to be able to focus on the cause.

Ensure you are able to create a file in the WordPress directory. If not, your file permissions may be insufficient.

    The generic debug procedure is:

    Take a backup before proceeding.

Check that you are using the latest copies of WordPress 3.9.1 and of your theme.

Deactivate all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin.

Re-upload all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress and plugins. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
