Support » Fixing WordPress » error when moving wordpress to root

  • Hello,

I just tried to move wordpress from a director to the root and I have been thrown the following errors:

Warning: require_once(/home/williar5/public_html/wp-admin/includes/admin.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/williar5/public_html/wp-admin/admin.php on line 14

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/williar5/public_html/wp-admin/includes/admin.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/williar5/public_html/wp-admin/admin.php on line 14

To complete the move, I followed the directions at http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_Within_Your_Site

I go the error at Step 11, when trying to update my permalinks. I was brought to the wp-admin login screen (which, oddly, contained no images or color) and then received the error.

I’m not sure if this is important, but when moving the files I was asked if I wanted to overwrite an .htaccess file. I said yes (I created a backup of all files).

Thanks for any and all help.

    Best,
    BW

  • You didn’t move all the files or the move wasn’t successful: it is complaining about not finding the wp-admin/includes/admin.php file. Is it there?

    Moshu,

Thanks. Actually, there are no files in that folder at all. I guess the move was not successful. Should I just put in the folder the necessary files from the latest wordpress release (I upgraded the other day to 2.3.2)?

    Thanks,
    BW

Yes, uploading the missing files should help.

Actually, I just took a look and none of the files from any of the subdirectories made it through via the move. I am now moving them all over from the backup that I made. If this all works I will update the thread to resolved. Thanks for your help.

One last question, moshu, as I’m sure you’re getting sick of me today.

Is the only way to fix the images now that I have moved wordpress over to the root, and have set the blog posts to appear at /composingspaces/ to use, as it says in the instructions:

    http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/move3/

If you go to http://williamwolff.org/composingspaces/ you will see that none of the images are appearing.

    Thanks,
    BW
