Support » Installing WordPress » Error When Installing WP Via FTP

  • I installed WordPress via FTP on an empty site and got the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in [route to site where I am installing WP]/wp-includes/load.php on line 1091

To try to fix it I deleted all the files from the site and tried to re-upload the files. I got the same error so I redownloaded WP, deleted the files from the site, and reuploaded the files. Same error. I’ve never had this problem before and I’m not sure what to do.

  • I suggest that you try to manually create your file wp-config.php by copying wp-config-sample.php and naming the new file wp-config.php and following the instructions in the file to add the details of your database connection and generating salt values, etc.

If the problem still remains after this, go back to wp-config.php and set (temporarily) WP_DEBUG to true, this will raise your chances of finding out where the real problem is. (The line you refer to is simply an error handler that went wrong…)
