Hi I have just noticed an issue / bug with this plugin.

If I take a product and “copy to draft” to use as a template for a new product, then change the parent sku to a new one, if I then save variations (not product itself) it generates SKU’s for the variations but it uses then SKU from the old product (not the one I just entered) and then returns an error about “duplicate SKU’s” on the variations tab.

This can be fixed if you then save the product as draft or publish it (I guess this saves the parent SKU), however, sometimes it makes sense to need to save the variations while working long before you actually save the draft or publish.

I have flagged this as a possible bug because I have used this plugin for a long time and this never used to happen. In previous versions if you saved the variations after copy to draft and you enter a new parent SKU, it would use that one even before you “save draft” or publish the product.

    Thanks
    Sam

Also, I notice that you can no longer edit SKU’s of variations that are generated by the plugin like you used to be able to do. This would be useful to be able to do again, not only in general, but also to manage the above issue…

    Thanks

Hey @xumbrella, thanks for the notes here!

I then save variations (not product itself) it generates SKU’s for the variations but it uses then SKU from the old product

This is because we just added a fix to generate SKUs on the variation refresh *and* product save for compatibility with other plugins. This is definitely a great point though — we can omit copying SKUs when products are duplicated, so I’ve logged an issue to fix this in our next release. Our team is pretty backed up right now prepping for WooConf and attending that next week, so this isn’t something we’re able to get to soon, but we will look at it once we have more availability.

Also, I notice that you can no longer edit SKU’s of variations that are generated by the plugin like you used to be able to do.

It only looked like you could, but you never actually got to set them 🙂 The SKUs would *always* be overridden upon product save when being generated.

You can still turn this off, though! You’d need to disable generating SKUs for variations under the plugin settings.

    Cheers,
    Beka
