Error updating the plugin in multisite

    WordPress version: 3.5.1
    WordPress SEO version: 1.3.4.4

    I did this:
    Went to Network Admin > WordPress Updates and attempted to update the WordPress SEO plugin.

    I expected the plugin to do this:
    I expected it to update successfully.

    Instead it did this:
    It failed and provided the following error message:

    Enabling Maintenance mode…
    Updating Plugin WordPress SEO (1/1)

    Downloading update from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-seo.1.4.1.zip…
    Unpacking the update…
    Installing the latest version…
    Removing the old version of the plugin…
    Plugin update failed.

    An error occurred while updating WordPress SEO: Could not remove the old plugin..

    Disabling Maintenance mode…
