I have installed (manually) the latest version of wordpress on my hosting site, earthlink. I am in the process of converting my old blog into wordpress as it was blogger FTP which Google is not supporting after May day. And I like wordpress' features.
At anyrate, I got this error when trying to import my blogger blog:
Could not connect to https://www.google.com
There was a problem opening a secure connection to Google. This is what went wrong:
Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? (26546168)

So how do I configure my php? I have indicated in my .htaccess file on my host what version of php to use, but I couldn't find any way that I could configure it via .htaccess to use ssl. I suspect this may be something that Earthlink disallows or doesn't do w/its apache or whatever.
Any advice on what to do next would be appreciated.
