I’ve checked with Brandon at STW, and the plugin is doing what it should be doing. That change is just for embedded data and not for XML requests, which is what the plugin does.
Basically I’d need to see the error messages being shown on your website to be able to determine what’s going on. Unfortunately, you’ve not given me quite enough detail to be able to diagnose what’s going on.
Ideally, I need the full error message being shown in the error logs, but to start with, your site URL would help.

Dan
Hi Dan,
I’ve been getting this same error with the thumbnails as well. It’s been there for a few month’s now. It seems to be trying to use STW – not sure why.
The error message from the log is:
Error Summary other_error – Data from STW was empty.
Request URL http://images.shrinktheweb.com/xino.php?stwaccesskeyid=220456a63da9fe8&stwu=77806&stwsize=sm&Service=ShrinkWebUrlThumbnail&Action=Thumbnail&stwurl=http://www.edirectpublishing.com&filetype=.com
However I’m hosting my own thumbnails with my own url. When I click view thumbnail image in the backend, it’s there and pops up. But the thumbnail isn’t showing in the backend under thumbnail or the front end on my portfolio page.

Ps…I’ve cleared the logs, cache etc. and added two more sites manually. I’m not getting the above error anymore but still no thumbnails showing. Here’s a link to the new host where it’s also happening on.

Hi Lisa
If you’re seeing that error, you’re still using ShrinkTheWeb by not having a custom thumbnail set up correctly for that site.
I can take a look, but I’ve had to start introducing a fee for support. If it’s a bug with WP Portfolio, I’ll refund the support fee.
Your error is different from the original poster, and has already been resolved:

Kind Regards

I think you may have missed the second part of what I wrote. After retesting. I’m not getting the STW error, on either of my sites, but the thumbnail is still not showing up in the backend or the front. I believe this is an issue with the plugin.
Are you saying in order to fix that I will need to pay for your services? If so let me know how to proceed.

new site, new host:

Can you help me with this issue?
What further information can I provide you?
Lisa
Just to update you, I’ve run into this same thing with my last host. Here’s our conversation thread:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-wordpress-portfolio-plugin-wp-portfolio-portofolio-thumbnail-images-all-of-a-sudden-not-showing-up?replies=6
This time I’m hosted with Network Solutions – I find it odd that this same issue keeps popping up for me. Do you think it’s the same case as before? The host again?
Lisa
Hi Lisa
Could we keep the discussions to 1 thread please? It’s now over 3 threads, which is getting hard to track.
If you want me to take a look, I’m going to have to charge you a fee. User-specific support requests takes me away from work that pays the bills.
I suggest you work your way through the FAQs:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-portfolio/faq/
One of the FAQs is about user permissions, which, based on a quick attempt to access an image, indicates you’ve not set the permissions for the directory correctly. (Accessing a thumbnail image: http://02dc160.netsolhost.com/lisalibutti/wp/wp-content/wp-portfolio/cache//3ff27e13dadd74eccf3de62f0dd99490_587d1a189407ed759a1283ff7d4569d3.jpg – produces a 403 forbidden message).
Since you’ve not pasted any error messages from the thumbnail log, I can’t help much further.
So for further help, I’d need to take a specific look at your installation. So after payment for the support is paid, I’ll also need WP admin and FTP details from you. If you’ve still got an issue, email me via: wpdoctors.co.uk/contact/ and I’ll send a Paypal payment request.
Regards
Dan
Dan, Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. It wasn’t my intention to create 3 threads. The first one was from the old issues I had on my last host that were never resolved. This new one is from the new host.
Unfortunately my issue continues and it’s not clear to me why the thumbnails continue to be an issue. When using a plugin I hope for easy usability with minimal issues. I’ve decided to just go ahead with another portfolio plugin as a resolution for me.
Thanks for your time on this.
Lisa
I got the same error. It was working fine just days ago. It was a good plugin but too bad…
@ HWM – this issue is covered in the FAQ.
This error usually occurs due to problems with your STW account, usually with lots of errors or security issues. If you log into your STW account, you should be able to check the error log there to find out why.
