Support » Plugin: Easy Table of Contents » Error on post update (Notice: Trying to get property of non-object)

Upon update of a published post, the errors below are shown. I make a change to a post that is already live and click the blue Update button. The page starts to reload, then is taken to /wp-admin/post.php with the error below shown.

The post is actually updated with the change. The plugin still works fine on the front end. I’ve tried reinstalling the plugin, reinstalled WordPress and tried using V1.1 of the plugin…

Sounds like another plugin (or theme) is applying the core WordPress the_content filter on an admin request … which should not be done as it’ll break plugins hooking into that filter.

My suggestion is to deactivate plugins one at a time, updating a post after each deactivation until the error no longer happens. When you can update successfully, the last plugin deactivated was the one causing the conflict.

Hope that helps, let me know.

It’s Yoast SEO and Yoast SEO Premium causing the issue. We have a premium support license with them, so will chat to them about it.

    Thanks!

Interesting, I run both those plugins. Yoast SEO on my dev site for compatibility testing and Yoast SEO Premium on my live estore site and do not get those errors. I wonder if change was made that I’ll have to account for. Let me know what you learn thru their support and I’ll take a look at me code again.

Here’s what Yoast said… They were able to replicate the issue from our staging site.

“Thank you for your continued patience. You contacted us regarding the conflict between the Yoast SEO plugin and Easy Table of Contents. This email is to inform you that the issue was closed. Our developers have decided not to investigate the issue further because we do not troubleshoot conflicts with plugins that have not been updated recently. Easy Table of Contents has not been updated in more than 2 years and thus most likely is not up to date with all the changes WordPress has made over the years.”

I just updated the last updated so it shows today. I know it works just fine because I use ezTOC and Yoast Premium on my estore which is current with all updates, including WP. Hopefully you can reopen the issue now that is shows as recently updated.
