Error on line 1 at column 10 when attempting to generate XML Sitemap

I have searched tall and wide across the internet and cannot find anyone with a similar issue. I am getting this error message when I attempt to generate an XML Sitemap:

error on line 1 at column 10: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
I see a lot of support forums with the issues of error on line 1 at column 6, but none for column 10 like I am having.
Things I have tried so far:
– Deactivating ALL non-Yoast related plugins (for me that’s all plugins except Yoast itself)
– Activating Twenty Sixteen theme
– Checked themes functions.php file for any white spaceAll of these to no avail though.

Does the issue occur when using a freshly installed default theme with only Yoast SEO active?
Does the issue occur with the current version of WordPress?
Does the issue occur with the current version of Yoast SEO?
Does the issue occur in a staging or test environment?
Have you tried manually reinstalling the Yoast SEO plugin?The issue is not something our support team would handle as it is caused by another file outputting something it shouldn’t output.
