My plugin is set to backup automatically. I looked at it today to see when the last backup was done before I updated my WordPress and saw this msg. I updated the plugin, ran another backup and got the same msg:

    zip warning: Permission denied

What does it mean? Are my backups still reliable?

    Using version 3.6.2 of Backupwordpress.

    Hi there –

This message means that you aren’t able to use the Unix Zip command because of permissions at the server level. We do have a backup option that uses the default PHP zip functions though. You should check to see if you’ve had successful backups despite the warning. If your backups aren’t running we can go over information that you can run by your host, but if they are working, that means the fallback option is working just fine. We’ll be refining those warning more in the future so they’re a little more helpful.

    Let me know!

Yes, I ended up figuring out that it was GoDaddy that had it set that way. But thanks for getting back to me 🙂
